| In the Heart of Route 62 |
The R62 Wine route is the longest, and probably one of the most visited in the Western Cape.
Many of the Wine Estates are on the banks of the Breede River or at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains. This is not just a trip to wine farms, but guests are spoiled by breathtaking scenic experiences - magnificent mountain peaks, vineyards that changes colors with the season, roses and irises growing in harmony with the grapes, the mighty Breede River and world class cellars. The area is best known for Chardonnay, Colombar, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot.
Guests are met at their accommodation in Montagu, from where we travel through the ‘hole in the mountain’ to our first cellar where you will have first hand experience in the blending and bottling of your very own wine. You will also have the opportunity to meet Stephan, who is still making wine by traditional methods with vintage equipment on their farm in Klaasvoogds West. Here you will stand next to this proud wine maker whilst swirling a ruby red Merlot in your glass.
Lunch is a picnic on the Breede River or when the cooler days approach us, you can enjoy a cheese platter and port next to an open log fire.
In the Valley of Wine and Roses time is no factor, so after a lazy lunch, we will move on to one or two more cellars, and should you wish, we can also stop at Klipdrift Distillery for a Brandy tasting.
